Beer Review 4 – “Barons Lager” from Barons Brewing.Beer-Review-4-Barons-Larger

Todays beer review is for Barons Lager – “Brewed by the Brave Boys of Barons Brewing” according to the label – is a very tasty Australian Lager from New South Wales.  I’m not sure why they call themselves “brave”, but I reckon they’ve done a mighty fine job.

Maybe it’s my new haircut, or maybe it’s my fondness for Monty Python, but I can’t help quoting in my head the lines from the “Contractual Obligation Album” when I look at the label:

Bishop of Leicester:   It is the dawn of time.   This earth we know so well is a smoldering, inhospitable place.   No plants grow, no creature can survive.   The hard, uncrackable rocks that form our mountain ranges are being crushed and folded by forces that will take millions of years to shape.  These are the forces!  This is the power that drives the hand that drinks “Treadmill”, the mighty lager, with the world’s first great taste of fish!

There is certainly no trace of fish, nor any other ocean going sea creature in this beer (nor is there any hair for that matter).  It is pure, unadulterated beery goodness.  It is not a strong taste – it is light, refreshing and very more-ish.  A very clear beer, with a sensational colour - it could almost be called a “blonde”.

The aviation theme on their labels (and their website) reminds me of a best of British “Chocks Away, Chaps”.   In fact, now that I think about it, there are several voices in my head – Monty Python, British War Movies voices…. this light headed-ness is probably a delayed Samson-esque reaction to having a lack of hair on my behalf…. I’ve noticed a lack of strength too…..

Barons Lager has an alchohol volume of 4.9%, which is fairly standard for Lagers.  The label suggests that Barons Brewing is an award winning independent Australian craft brewer.  They have used Czech saaz, New Zealand hops, and Australian and German malts while they were being brave in making this beer.

The Barons Brewing website – http://www.BaronsBrewing.com - is quite interesting as well.  They have a couple of rather amusing but politically incorrect videos, one of which I thought I’d share here.

Anyway, Barons Lager is great for everyone who loves simple beer, and is especially suited to people who may or may not have hair.

This great beer is another 9 out of 10 on the Forty Beers Cheers O Meter.

Thanks, and I’m sure I’ll be able to put this whole haircut thing behind me very soon…..

Matthew
