Beer Review 2– “Chopper Heavy” from Steel River Brewery.

Drum roll please……

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to Beer Review Number 2 – “Chopper Heavy” from the good people Steel River Brewery, in New South Wales, Australia.  Chopper Heavy is a so called Australian Style Lager.  What that means I’m not entirely sure, but I can say that having opened and sampled this Lager that it’s quite drinkable.  It’s very light in colour, and light on bubbles/froth as well.  Very definitely a “brewed” taste,  but delicious none-the-less.

Chopper Heavy Lager is obviously modelled on the notorious Chopper Read – an infamous person of note here in Australia… the movie “Chopper” staring Eric Bana, was quite well known in the year 2000 at the cinemas.

Open Beer 2 - Chopper Heavy Lager.

According to the label this Australian Lager Beer ingredients are water, malt, hops, yeast.  According to the website listed on the label – www.ChopperHeavy.com – this beer may no longer be brewed or current…. at least the website isn’t anyway (it’s all in Japanese).  Due to a complete lack of Japanese on my behalf, I cannot confirm that is is NOT the official Chopper Heavy Beer website, but I strongly suspect it isn’t.  A quick google search revealed a few “Chopper Heavy Beer” sites, each claiming that this beer is brewed at different breweries (yes, plural)… I lost interest very quickly, so sorry I can’t point you in the right direction.

Quoting from the label:

“Nailed to a cross, his end was very near, he called to the roman for one last drink, and smiled when he got a beer.”

I question the religious significance, offensiveness and factuality in this quote, but leaving any biblical references aside for the moment, the beer is quite good.

This would be an 8.5 out of 10 on the Forty Beers Cheers O Meter.

I’m looking forward to Beer number 3  :-)

Thanks,

Matthew – FortyBeers.com
