To set the scene :
Recently, yours truly turned 40. While this was no major achievement in itself, it did provide the opportunity to have a bit of a reflection upon my life thus far. Some of these reflections might appear within the pages of FortyBeers.com . It also provided the opportunity to have a bit of a party…..
At this party, I was both amazed and humbled by the realisation once again that I am a very lucky man indeed. I have a wonderful wife, two fantastic daughters, and many incredible friends. Many of these friends took it upon themselves to give me some birthday gifts….. and a definite theme was apparent. Beers ( and quite a few wines as well ) of all shapes, sizes, colours and nationalities managed to find their way into my appreciative arms.
Three of my oldest friends – Simon, Phoebe and Chris – obviously put much thought into their gift. They individually wrapped forty beers, complete with a nice little ribbon, and labeled each of these beers with a little note of each year of my life… from 1969 through to 2009.
I was told that I had to open and drink these beers in chronological order.
So – thus begins this epic journey of amber fluid proportions. I will not be drinking these beers all at once – far from it. I will savour and enjoy each and every one of them. Every time I crack one of these Bubbly Birthday Beverages I will document it here on this blog. I’ll try to provide beer tasting notes, or comments, or ramblings, or at least something vaguely intelligent during the beer reviews that will find their way here.
I have been told that there are some Fantastic Foaming Frothies in amongst these beers. I have also been told that one or two of them might, in fact, taste like the urine of a Bat. And therein lies the drama, the excitement, the tension, and possibly an occasional burp.
